Occupation: 911 Dispatcher
Marital Status: Single From Kathi: After graduating, I went to ICC and then to UND, graduated in 1991 with a BS in Mathematics. After a few jobs and moving around, finally landed at Sherburne County Sheriff's Office as a 911 dispatcher. SO, basically I wasted several thousand dollars on a college degree! I love my job and my co-workers but the job does have it's negatives...if you have even been a dispatcher, you will know what I mean. Never had children, I think I make a better aunt anyway. I enjoy my independence too much. Anyway, hope to see everyone at the reunion, if I can get the time off (the main disadvantage to being a dispatcher, have to work weekends) In the "now" picture I am on the left, my sister(stephanie class of 1986) on the right and my good friend alex in the middle. The picture was taken after a few cocktails so we all look a little happy. |

Occupation: Finance Manager
Website: www.colostate.edu Marital Status: Married No. of Children: 3 From David: Update: We are moving back to Colorado, specifically Fort Collins. I accepted a position at Colorado State University which I simply could not turn down. Amber, the J-Girls and I are very excited to return to Colorado after a year in Wyoming.
After moving to Boulder, Colorado in August of 1988 and living there until August of 2007, we decided to move the family 130 miles north to my wife’s home state of Wyoming. Life is good at an elevation of 7,266 feet in Laramie. I work as the Manager of Finance and Technology for the College of Business at the University of Wyoming and am working toward earning a Ph.D. in Economics. My wife, Amber, and I met on the beach in Mexico during spring break of 1991 and we married in 1993, the same year I graduated with my B.A. in Environmental Biology. Next came earning my M.S. in Finance and since then I have worked full-time in the fields of Finance and Information Technology. In 2002, our first daughter arrived, Jada (5), followed by Jasmine (3) and Jenelle (1). Most of my seven siblings and my dad still live in Grand Rapids, so we visit once or twice a year. We are planning to drive up to GR for a two-week vacation in August and will attend the reunion events. |

Occupation: Real Estate Sales
Website: www.ourpremierhomes.com Marital Status: Married No. of Children: 3 From Michelle: Seeing the difference between 10 years and 20 has been very exciting to read. I was married for 9 years and divorced. Tim (16), Lance (11), and Claire (8) are the wonderful prizes that I have to show for those years. I have been selling real estate for the last 9 years and since that has been a bust lately I got a full time corporate job for an internet bank. Then, of course, the market started to get busy again. So, two jobs later and three kids.....whew! During a regular week (besides work), I run kids to baseball, gymnastics, snowboarding, skiing, school clubs, church, and groceries, groceries, groceries. I still enjoy playing volleyball. I am also a chairperson on the kids Cardinal Cruisers Ski/Snowboard Club so we are out in the snow a lot. We spend a lot of time at the family hunting cabin especially in the fall. I was remarried almost two years ago to a client I sold a house to 6 years ago! He brought to the marriage, my step-dog, Penny, a black lab. We built a house on a few acres on the Clearwater River and enjoy working on the landscaping and the occasional canoe ride. He's from out west and will be teaching me the art of antelope hunting this fall! Yes, I'm still a hunter as are my kids. Enough for now. Can't wait to catch up! |

Occupation: Attorney
Marital Status: Married No. of Children: 1 From Janene: This is such a wonderful website and very addicting! It has been so interesting reading where everyone has landed. Thanks to those of you who worked on the site. My story: After graduation from GR, I headed off to Minneapolis to attend the U of M. After changing my major several times, I graduated with a degree in psychology in 1993. Looking back, psychology was a good pick because I met my husband while working for a psychology professor my senior year. After graduation, I landed a job with a pharmaceutical company working in human resources.
Todd and I were married in Minneapolis in 1995. That same fall, we packed up and moved to Boston to attend our respective law schools. During our summer breaks, we had the opportunity to explore the country and clerked in Dallas and San Francisco. I graduated in 1999 with a law degree and an MS degree in HR Development. After our trial runs of locales, CA was the clear winner and we moved here just after graduation. We currently live in San Mateo, a sunny suburb about 20 minutes south of San Francisco. After 3 years working for a law firm, I decided to open my own law practice providing employment law/human resources consulting to employers – that was six years ago and it is still going well. We bit the bullet and purchased a house in 2004. The real estate market out here is just insane.
The best achievement to date is our little guy, Owen, who is just about to turn two. He is a toe headed handful with a great little sense of humor. Life with a kid is hilarious! Before Owen, when I actually had spare time, I enjoyed long-distance running and we traveled quite a bit. Now if I get to run around the block or visit the local discovery museum, it feels like a big deal. Such is life. I have to admit, I occasionally listen to our local heavy metal radio station when I get nostalgic for GR (They play all the oldies…Guns and Roses, Def Leppard, White Snake etc.). Great to catch up with everyone! **Update: We are expecting a baby girl in early fall and unfortunately, I don't think we will make it to the reunion. Have fun! |

Occupation: 3rd Grade Teacher
Marital Status: Married No. of Children: 4 From Holly: 20 years! Amazing how time flies! After high school I went to the U of MN (Twin Cities) and got my Elementary Education Degree. I was so lucky to meet my husband there and while he finished his Engineering degree, I took a teaching job in Northome, MN. The only reason I knew where that was located was because I grew up hunting a few miles away from there. I taught 2 years as a special education teacher in their K - 12 school. During those 2 years, I got married and worked on my Masters Degree at BSU. Since Northome is not an area highly in need of engineers, we moved to St. Cloud. We've lived in the area ever since. I taught 5 more years of special education and moved into my current position as a 3rd grade teacher in St. Joseph. During all of this, 4 kids came along, Connor 13, Cole 10, Carly 7, and Chloe 4. Yes, life is busy! Good thing for June, July, and August! My parents moved to the Alexandria area so they could spend more time with my family. We love it! I haven't been to G.R. for a couple of years. Wish I could make it to the reunion, but my sister, Hillary, my mom, and I are going to Paris for a week. It's our celebrate of life tour! My mom is a 5 year breast cancer survivor, so we're celebrating. I'm also celebrating my husband's 2 year survivor of a massive stroke that he suffered while golfing. We are very blessed to have him survive after such a horrible event. We are grateful that he can continue to run the engineering firm and play with our kids. Life has a new normal. Enjoy the reunion, and know I'll be there in spirit. I'll have a few extra glasses of wine to celebrate. Holly |

Marital Status: Married
No. of Children: 2 From Tracey: Hello Class of '88! I look forward to catching up with you at the reunion. Here's a quick recap for now. After getting my bachelors from St. Scholastica, I married my high school sweetheart, Nathan Nyvall (class of '86). We moved to Chicago where I used my degree in health information administration working mostly in hospitals in the areas of medical records, performance improvement, and systems coordination. Five years later, we returned to Minnesota and settled in Woodbury. We have Emily who is almost eleven and Nicholas who is seven. I have enjoyed staying at home with them and only this year began working two days a week at their former preschool. We are looking forward to the reunion - all four of us always enjoy spending time in Grand Rapids! |

Occupation: Patent Attorney
Website: www.uspto.gov Marital Status: Married From Brent: After graduating from GR I attended ICC for two years, then on to UMD for two more where I received my chemical engineer degree.
Then it was off to the land of “Dorthy” (Kansas) for four years where I was hired by Cargill to work as an engineer/manager in a soybean facility where we made cooking oil. I then moved to China for 2.5 years where I managed a soybean plant and worked on joint venture and acquisition projects. I traveled throughout China and much of Asia. I then transferred to Ohio where I was the plant manager for the largest vegetable oil packing plant in the U.S.
After two years I was getting a little bored and looking for an intellectual challenge. I quit my job and enrolled in law school in Minnesota for 1 year and then transferred to Ohio for 2 more and worked in an intellectual property law firm. I was absolutely crazy but I did not know it at the time. After 3 brutal years I graduated from law school and became a patent attorney. Along the way I got married to a wonderful lady. I then moved to South Carolina for 9 months – not like MN at all.
In 2005 I moved to the Washington DC area to take a position with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. I have learned about hundreds of cool inventions. Life is good here where we are able to enjoy the museums and all that DC has to offer. When I was going to college I thought it would have been ideal to live the rest of my life in GR, however, I am very grateful to have seen other places and met other people of our world. If any of your engineer/scientist friends are interested in becoming a patent examiner there are many openings in DC. After a period of time you probably can live anywhere in the world. |
